The Rt Revd Richard Jackson Bishop of Hereford will serve as President of Three Counties Agricultural Society for its 2025 event season.
Bishop Richard has roots in rural matters and agriculture. Before becoming a Bishop, he worked as an agronomist for seven years, advising arable farmers on all aspects of crop production having studied an MSc in Soil and Water Engineering at the National College of Agricultural Engineering.
Bishop Richard commented, “I’m delighted to assume the role of Three Counties President this year. I retain a strong interest in agricultural matters and this is part of my portfolio as sitting member of the House of Lords. I married into a farming family. My father in law was for a time Chief Cattle Steward at the Royal Show so I feel I will settle in well to the role.”
The role of President of the Society is to support Three Counties in meeting its charitable objectives, and to champion farmers and the rural community by raising awareness of the importance of British Agriculture. The Society President will be attending social events to bring communities together, and helping to spread the word about professional development opportunities in agriculture.
“Attending Royal Three Counties Show as President of the Society will be a highlight for me. I am passionate about British Agriculture, soil health and livestock.” Said Bishop Richard on his new appointment.
“It’s a wonderful event that brings all aspects of rural life together for the public to enjoy, spreading awareness of how important farming is to our country.”
A hub for farming discussions supported by the President of the Society is The Future of Farming Theatre at Royal Three Counties Show (13-15 June 2025), a dedicated forum offering help and advice for growing and improving land-based businesses. Including discussions over making the most of assets and finding alternative incomes and support in the current financial climate, and ample opportunities for asking questions and networking too.
Bishop Richard succeeds Henry Berkeley, President of the Society in 2024.
