13 Guinness World Records broken at Malvern Autumn Show, in association with Westons

65,000 visitors were welcomed through the gates at Malvern Autumn Show last weekend at Three Counties Showground, Malvern.
The CANNA UK National Giant Vegetables Championship enjoyed a whopping 650 entries this year, with growers from across the country gathering to weigh and measure their gargantuan produce.
After a tense day of weighing, an impressive 13 Guinness World Records were awarded, wowing visitors and making both regional and national news.
- Heaviest Sunflower head – Peter Glazebrook 7.046kg
- Longest Broad Bean – James Brown 455mm
- Heaviest Celeriac – Graham Barrett 6.330kg
- Longest Turnip – Joe Atherton 4929mm
- Heaviest Runner Bean – M.Enstone 0.254kg
- Heaviest Red Cabbage – Chris Evans 33kg
- Longest Leek – Peter Glazebrook 1582mm
- Heaviest Tromboncino – Kevin Fortey, 5.306kg
- Longest aubergine – Kevin Fortey – 0410mm
- Tallest Cucumber Plant – Kevin Fortey 6497mm
- Heavy Pepper – Ian Neale, 0.966kg
- Longest radish – Joe Atherton 7410mm
- Heaviest Khoi Rabi – Chris Marriott 47kg
Kate Dufton, Malvern Autumn Show Lead, said “We’re delighted with the number of World Records broken this year in the CANNA UK National Giant Vegetables Championship. This is a popular feature every year, and we’re proud to support the community of giant veg growers as they continue to wow our visitors and spread awareness of the fun families can have growing their own food.”
Other highlights of the 2024 show included:
- The Garden Theatre hosted by TV’s Nicki Chapman and featuring BBC Gardeners World presenters Arit Anderson and Adam Frost.
- The RHS Flower Show and Gardening Village showcased the best of seasonal plants, expert advice and a passion for horticulture
- The event’s first ever “dog day” on Sunday, where visitors were welcome to bring their dogs along to join in the fun
- The new Great Malvern Cake off Tent enjoyed talks from GBBO stars Briony May Williams and Guiseppe Del’Anno, with exciting cake decorating against the clock
- The new Tipple Zone in association with Piston Distillery put on talks, live music, demos and tastings throughout the weekend
- 100s of tradestands provided a great day of shopping for all
